The 40 over 40 Project | Feat. Michelle Dean
In the following blog posts I’ll be featuring 68 and fabulous Michelle Dean, a fabulous woman who accepted the challenge to be seen and celebrated in portraits. Michelle’s husband surprised her with a gift certificate for a glamour portrait experience. After seeing the women in the 40 over 40 gallery he felt inspired and wanted her beautiful wife to experience a portrait session. It was great seeing their eyes light up as we went through every image during Michelle’s reveal session. What a magic thing to be able to experience yourself in all your power and confidence and then seeing the final result in timeless portraits.
Here Michelle shares her motivation to participate in the 40 over 40 project and send a strong message about why 40+ women should love, embrace and celebrate everything that makes them unique at this stage in their lives.

I am 68 years old. I have 4 adult children and 2 bonus adult children. They range in age from 45 to 32. I am blessed with 6 grandchildren, 15 to 5 mts old. My early career was a self taught florist (Michelle’s Flowers and Things and River Wind Florals) and clothing/jewelry designer and maker. Later I went to college and received degrees in Health and Physical Education, Nutrition and Health And Wellness Consulting. I am pursuing an online PHD in Natural Medicine (Integrative Medicine). My favorite pastimes are : traveling the world, (love to travel), learning new things, reading, art, designing and making costumes for my grandchildren, sewing, painting, entertains and dance!. I love life and relish each day with gratitude.
Why did you want to participate in this project?: I love to help people, by showing/teaching women that they can improve their health at any age. Also, to help show that women can remain vital, relevant and valuable throughout their lives.
What are you feeling now about being photographed? What was your favorite part about this process?: I feel so happy and grateful I got to experience it! Mayumi is excellent and she made me feel so comfortable! . Every single moment was perfect! From planning my outfits and jewelry, to the hair and makeup to the photography session and viewing the final product was exquisite!
What would you tell other women over 40 about doing something outside their comfort zone?
What piece of advice you would like to give to your child or any young person that you wish someone would've given you?: Do not spend valuable time agonizing over what someone said, acknowledge it , then let it go! Start each day anew with a fresh attitude of great fullness for your life, for your health and your people!
If you had a super power what would it be?: To know immediately what was physically/mentally wrong with a person and be able to heal them!
What would you say your most notable accomplishment has been?: To realize at a young age how valuable each moment actually is , and to tell everyone I love how much I love them as often as possible.
Do you have a favorite quote, by you or someone else?: Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. - Marianne Williamson
